The Rockwall Yellowjackets defeated South Garland 10-7 on Thursday behind the pitching and hitting of Senior Richard Parson. Parson was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Cody Fields and delivered two home runs at the plate.

The Colonels came out hitting early. Following a strikeout, the Colonel hitters strung together 3 straight singles off of Fields. The hits were to no avail as Fields buckled down recording another strikeout and getting a ground ball to end the inning without allowing a run.

The Yellowjackets hitters also came out quickly. Following a walk to leadoff hitter Jonny Bertrand, outfielder Tim Parish put Rockwall ahead with a 2-run blast over the leftfield fence.

With 1-out in the 1st, Jordan Hammontree was hit by a pitch which set the table for Parson's first of two home runs of the night. Parson took a 1-0 pitch from the Colonels pitcher over the leftfield fence to put Rockwall on top early 4-0.

Fields cruised in the 2nd inning, striking out the side but began struggling with control in the 3rd. Following a leadoff out to 2nd baseman Michael Hatcher, Fields loaded the bases with 3 straight walks. Just as in the opening inning, Fields beared down on the hitters, recording a strikeout and a 6-4 fielder's choice to end the threat.

The control problems continued for Fields in the 4th inning. Following a strikeout of the leadoff hitter, Fields walked 4 Colonel batters. Holding a 4-1 lead, Coach Jeff Payne went to the bullpen bringing in Parson. South Garland hitter Stephen Neidweicki pounded a Parson fastball to rightcenter scoring 2 more runs.

Parson retired the next hitter on a strikeout. On the strikeout pitch, Yellowjackets catcher Jake Inmon came up throwing to shortstop Jonny Bertrand at 2nd base who had snuck in behind the unknowing Colonel runner to make the play a strike'em out throw'em out double play.

In the 5th, Hammontree singled and Parson delivered his 2nd home run of the night putting Rockwall on top 6-4. In the 6th, Parson was besieged by control problems of his own walking 4 batters. The walks and an untimely error by 2nd baseman Hatcher allowed the Colonels to tie the contest at 6-6.

In the bottom of the 6th frame, Rockwall took advantage of South Garland pitching woes. Colonels' pitchers walked 5 in the inning and Yellowjackets hitters Garrett Henderson and Brian Durst each contributed singles to put Rockwall on top 10-6.

In the top of the 7th, two errors by Rockwall 3rd baseman Tim Parish sandwiched around a balk and a single allowed South Garland to score a run. But Parson struck out the final batter to end the game 10-7 with Rockwall on top.
