The Rowlett Eagles were too much for Rockwall on Saturday, defeating the Yellowjackets 8-1. Rowlett moves their undefeated record to 18-0-2 and stands alone atop of District 10-5A. Following a 1-2-3 Rockwall 1st, Rowlett put 3 runs on the board in the bottom of the frame with four singles and a fielder's choice. In the 2nd inning, Rockwall made some noise as centerfielder Jordan Hammontree took Rowlett pitcher Tait Norris deep to left for a home run. Hammontree's hit proved to be the only run of the day for the Yellowjackets. Baserunning mistakes and inability to hit with runners in scoring position limited Rockwall. Rockwall pitcher Tim Parish took the loss giving up 7 runs on 6 hits. He recorded 1 strikeout, 2 walks (1 intentional), and hit 2 batters during his 5 1/3 innings on the mound. Following the 3 run first, Parish shutdown the Eagles in the 2nd and 3rd, not allowing a run. Rockwall made an effort to get back in the game in the top half of the 4th inning. First baseman Garrett Henderson led off the inning with a single to center. Hammontree then hit a hard linedrive that was caught by Eagle shortstop Brandon Loy who threw to first, catching Henderson off base for a doubleplay. In the bottom of the 4th, things came apart for the Yellowjackets defense. Following a leadoff single, Parish hit a batter with a pitch and then was unable to record an out on an attempted sacrifice bunt. The error left Rowlett runners on all bases. With no one out and the bases loaded, Parish walked the next hitter driving in a runner from 3rd. A subsequent error by Henderson on a ground ball and a sacrifice fly to centerfield allowed Rowlett to put up 3 runs. By the time Rockwall recorded the final out of the 4th inning, Rowlett led the game 6-1. Rowlett put up 2 more runs in the 6th. Rockwall was unable to get another run across the plate. A final scoring attempt in the 7th inning was again snuffed out by a doubleplay as pinch runner Jonny Blake was caught off 2nd base on a linedrive to shortstop Loy. Loy caught the ball and beat Blake to the base recording the two outs unassisted. Second baseman Michael Hatcher struck out to end the game. No Rockwall hitter recorded more than one hit on the day. Hatcher contributed an extra base hit in the 3rd with a double. Rockwall hitters struck out 7 times in the game. The Rockwall defense committed 3 errors. Yellowjacket 3rd bagger JD DeLoach showed improvement recording outs on each of two opportunities.

Neither first baseman Garrett Henderson or second baseman Michael Hatcher can reach first base in time to make the putout on the Rowlett hitter following a bunt to Pitcher Tim Parish. It was that kind of day for the Yellowjackets. |
